WhatsApp: clicking on this simple link can cause the application to crash on Android

Android WhatsApp users are currently dealing with a brand-new problem that causes the application to crash.

WhatsApp: clicking on this simple link

Many users found that after they clicked on a link, the program stopped responding.

Twitter user BruteBee was the first to notice the fault, and Android Authority has confirmed that the application's version 2.23.10.77 is now affected, however, it is not yet known whether other versions have also been impacted by the problematic link.

The problematic link "wa. me/settings" is intended to direct users to WhatsApp's settings. But instead of allowing access to the settings, the application completely locks up.

When restarted, the application works as intended until the link-containing conversation is once again opened, at which point a bouncing crash occurs.

Fortunately, just the specific conversation containing the link is affected, allowing users to avoid the issue by simply not opening up that particular chat.

HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IF YOU CLICKED ON THE LINK?

To fix the problem, a temporary solution is to use WhatsApp on the web, as the bug does not affect the web version. Users can log in through their browser and delete the message containing the problematic link, which will restore the normal operation of the application.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, is probably working on a fix for this bug. Since this is a problem that renders the application inoperative, the bug is probably at the top of the American giant's priority list.

The temporary workaround should suffice until WhatsApp releases a patch to fix the problem.

Meta decides to deploy a patch for its WhatsApp app for Android.
