Proton Pass:

Proton, the expert from Switzerland in safeguarding and confidentiality, now presents a complimentary, versatile, and synchronized password manager named Proton Pass, which also incorporates an inventive email alias feature.

Proton is a well-established developer situated in Switzerland renowned for its utilities like Proton VPN, Proton Mail, and Proton Drive. The shared objective of these applications is to prioritize security and privacy. Proton strives to downplay the exposure of users' information by offering an advanced level of safeguarding and encryption to ensure optimal secrecy. Adding to their collection of utilities, Proton Pass functions as a password manager, similar to LastPass, Dashlane, KeePass, and 1Password, which have garnered widespread adoption among users.

After undergoing beta testing for a few months, Proton Pass is now available in its final version for all users, and the best part is it's free! On PCs and Macs, it adopts the form of a browser extension, while on portable devices (iOS and Android), it manifests as a comprehensive application. Proton Pass offers a conventional password manager that enables users to store login credentials and passwords for websites and online services. Furthermore, it provides the capacity to generate robust passwords during registration.

This open-source tool guarantees end-to-end encryption. It also allows users to securely store notes and introduces a distinctive feature not commonly found in similar utilities—a functionality for email aliases. This attribute empowers users to employ alternate email addresses when registering for new online services, thereby safeguarding their actual email addresses. Quite convenient!

Proton Pass is available in two versions. The initial version is completely free and facilitates unrestricted management of login credentials and passwords across browser extensions and mobile applications, with synchronization. It also incorporates support for approximately ten email aliases. The second version is a subscription-based model (like most available password managers) priced at €4.99 per month. With the premium version, users enjoy unlimited email aliases and supplementary security features, such as two-factor authentication. For €9.99 per month, users can also gain access to all other Proton services.

Proton Pass does not currently encompass certain beneficial features, such as payment method management or data sharing with trusted contacts. However, it's worth noting that this is merely the initial release, and future updates are anticipated to introduce additional functionality.

How to utilize Proton Pass on a personal computer?

Regarding PCs and Macs, Proton Pass does not currently possess a dedicated application. Instead, it provides browser extensions that are compatible with Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Brave.

  • Begin by downloading and installing the extension that corresponds to your preferred browser. For this demonstration, we will utilize the Chrome extension.
  • Once the extension is installed, pin it to the browser's toolbar by clicking on the extension's icon and selecting "Pin."
  • Now, click on the Proton Pass icon situated in the toolbar. Within the ensuing menu, various options are accessible, including password imports.

Proton Pass represents a remarkable solution for securely managing passwords across multiple platforms. With its complimentary version offering robust features and the option to upgrade for additional advantages, it warrants serious consideration for individuals seeking to enhance their password management practices.
